Cambodian Diaspora Victim’s Participation Project
in the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia
presented by:
ASRIC and The APA Institute at New York University,
with legal partner:
UCLA School of Lawís International Justice Clinic
in cooperation with our local hosts:
The Santa Clara County Cambodian Women’s Association
The Cambodian Community of Santa Clara
In 1975-79, the Khmer Rouge systematically killed an estimated 2 million Cambodians through torture, starvation, or execution. More than 3 decades later, the suffering continues as Cambodians in the diaspora struggle to overcome a horrific past and reclaim their personal, national, and spiritual identity as an empowered and resilient people. ASRIC has organized this event to allow survivors of these crimes to share personal stories of survival in a vital step towards the catharsis, healing, and strengthening of the entire Cambodian community. As part of this healing, ASRIC will provide survivors with the opportunity to have their voices heard at the trials of Khmer Rouge officials taking place in the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) by helping survivors to document evidence to submit to the Court.
